video made on iphone 3GS has low volume after emailing

I understand that the video is reduced from 640x480 to 480x360 when it is emailed. However, it seems that the audio quality is affected as well as the video. I sent an iphone video to somebody who said it had low volume. When I played it on the iphone, it was fine. But when I then sent it to myself, and played it on my computer, the volume was low. Does the fact the it's in quicktime have anything to do with this? Did anyone else experience this
