Wait and hope iOS 4.1 fixes the performance issues.

I think you can do a bit more than hope. Apple acknowledged that they did a bad job with iOS 4 for older 3G phones, and Steve Jobs himself said it would be sorted in teh new 4.1 which shodl be out next week. My wife has been hating her 3G since she upgraded to iOS 4. It is really slow.

From some of the reviews I have read about iOS 4.1, the new update should sort out the lag.

128 MB of RAM just isn't enough. Apple dropped the ball there.
