Does iphone 3G have modem pass thru?

Since the new iphone has 3G capability and higher costs, does it allow the user to use the iphone as a modem to access networks instead of requiring a wireless card? I intend to use my upcoming iphone and laptop together and NOT require a seperate wireless card. Any news on this?
