I just got my iPad RMini. There is a phone number connected with the Verizon data plan. What can this number be used for? I am currently getting FaceTime through my iPhone number.

If you want a phone number, get a google voice phone number and install the google Hangouts app. You can use that combo to make free calls. It does use data though, of course.
