Smart connector for keyboards only?

I'm trying to decide whether i want the new iPad Pro 9.7 or save some money and get an iPad Air 2. So my question is whether or not 3rd party manufacturers or apple themselves will make an accessory that uses the iPad Pro's smart connector besides a physical keyboard? Is a keyboard the only type of accessory that can be paired with the iPad using this connection or are there other options? If i wanted a physical keyboard i could just use my laptop...

Unless I'm mistaken, only the Smart Keyboard works with the smart connector whereas other add-ons use the Lightning port or Bluetooth.

Logitech sells a slick weighted base charging stand that holds the iPad Pro's using the Smart connector. You could then use a Bluetooth keyboard.
