When I buy my iPad Pro,will I be able to use it as a phone? Would I need a mobile plan for it?

No. It will only work with FaceTime, Skype and the like. No cellular voice connectivity, just like the rest of the iPad line.

But if you have an iPhone you can make calls on your iPad through your iPhone.

I would think you can make audio cellular calls just like the iPad can do if it's in range of your iPhone

It would be nice if we could actually make a call from it with a BT headset.

As long as you're on the same WiFi - I will answer calls a few times a week on my iPad, make calls every so often but I text/iMessage quite a bit from it.

AT&T offers number sync. As long as you have a internet connection you can use your iPad as your phone.

Yes. I use Magic Jack on all my devices. When someone rings my number my devices ring as well as my rotary phone.

So subscribe to Magic Jack. Download the Magic Jack application. All you would need is a WIFI connection. When I am not home I have a WIFI device using Version.

To the OP:

Use Continuity if you've got an iPhone. Otherwise you might consider something like Skype, which will let you call mobile/landline numbers if you've got a paid subscription.
