I will be getting a tv soon in my room. But i wont have cable for a few months so i was thinking of buying a media player just to watch Netflix. I saw one called roku 2 XD which has netflix and supposedly get many channels. But at the same time i can get apple tv and i do have an ipad mini and iphone 4 . But apple tv does offer those many channels. But i would just use mirror feature on my ipad mini. What should i get? Roku or apple tv?

Since you already are invested in the Apple ecosystem, the Apple TV would probably work best. It does have builtin wifi, but connect it via Ethernet if you can to get better bandwidth for video.

AppleTV, for all of the above reasons, plus AirPlay from your iPad Mini... no brainer. Jailbreak it and load XBMC and Nitro and you’re good to go for a lot of entertainment.

Jail breaking not necessary depending on what type of media and where it is located though.

If everything's coming through airplay on your iPad mini, then there's no reason to jailbreak and you can go ahead and get the ATV 3 (only the ATV 2 can be jailbroken right now).

Apple TV FTW. The Roku box is very good, but like others have said if you are an iOS user already then Apple TV is the best option
