Can I transfer easily the data from an old IPad to a new iPad using the same Apple ID?

Old iPad is a mini 3 and the new mini iPad 4 ... Apple ID is the same. If I just power up the new iPad will the data from the old iPad automatically transfer over?

Make sure you back up the old iPad to iCloud then when you setup the new one with your Apple ID you can restore from that backup.

Or cable hookup the old Mini 3 to iTunes, run a backup, then add the new Mini 4 and do a restore from backup.

The new pad needs to have the same or more recent OS to use the backup.
