Contrary to rumours of older chipsets etc. I think that Apple will throw all the latest wizardry (retina, new space greys, touch IDs, 64 bit and A7) at the mini and may even keep it at the same price. I think the mini market is more a battle over market share (hence last year's smaller profit margins) than Apple would have us admit, as they are keen to maintain their dominant position. The only credible way to do that is make this product the most credible gadget for business and for education, so they do need to keep being the best, even of that affects margins in the short term. Over time they will claw back profit as they will be producing the A7 chip with huge economies given that it is also in the Iphone 5s and a likely Iphone 6c next year. Cementing their market leader status in this field now will likely free up engineers to work on new product lines for 2014, and / or a bigger phone. That's my view anyway.
