editing photos with iphoto on ipad air

When I edit photos in iphoto are those photos duplicated in my ipad storage? I see the unedited ones
are still in the regular photo section. Trying to figure out how to keep only the editied ones.

To complicate things further, I can't delete the origional file cuz it was synced from my computer.
Wonder also if I delete the album now that they are edited in iphoto will I end up losing the edited ones
in iphoto?
I hate that I can't delete photos that I synced from computer.
