Will the iPad Air/iPad Mini Retina Verizon models work on AT&T LTE like the 5S?

I've been searching for this and have seen specs. But I want to make sure. I know that an unlocked Verizon model 5S will work on AT&T LTE bands. Would this be the same case for the iPads being released? Or even vice-versa?

Vice-versa probably not... as the AT&T variants likely have the Verizon CDMA compatible parts of the hardware locked via firmware by Apple at some point in the manufacturing process.

Although I don't want to definitively say yes, looking at the structure of the listing on the Apple site I'm inclined to say yes as they all share the same band support seemingly. Vice versa might not work though.

According to the Apple website iPads are sold unlocked so for the U.S. model it looks like you can just swap in whatever SIM you want and then change in the future if you want. The carrier may want to charge you for the sim card, but a lot of times you can talk them out of that.

I'm glad I'll get LTE for both AT&T and Verizon on an AT&T iPad. I sometimes get cell data on my iPad for 30 days and it's nice to be able to have the choice of Verizon now.

I purchased the Sprint iPad Air and was able to swap out the sim card with a T-Mobile sim card. It worked without any issues. On TMO I had Ping-209, 22.80DL/5.31UL. On Sprint it was Ping-147, 2.94DL/0.30UL.

Yup. My first iPad was a Verizon model because the T-Mobile was sold out. I had a spare T-Mobile SIM laying around and it worked just fine. :)

is it possible to unlock a verizon ipad mini in order to use a 3G SIM ?? HOW?

On Verizon - the 3G is CDMA technology - and that does not require a SIM... As far as using it on other USA-based GSM providers 3G - depends on the carrier and frequency bands in use for their 3G.
