Hi all
Tried to send some photos from my mid 2010 MBP to my 4th gen iPad. So firstly tried airdrop. I enabled it on both devices but when I click on the airdrop icon in Finder my iPad doesn't show up. I have it enabled on my iPad and set to everyone. So I am guessing it won't work on a 2010 MacBook Pro for some reason. I have Yosemite installed and latest iOS.

So then I tried iCloud. I put the folder of pics in my iCloud drive on MBP but damned if I know how to find them on iPad. AgIn I'm signed in with the right app count so I'm stumped.

Any ideas are really appreciTed

Macs that include AirDrop support are the same as, or newer than, the models listed below.

  • MacBook Pro (Late 2008 or newer)*
  • MacBook Air (Late 2010 or newer)
  • MacBook (Late 2008 or newer)*
  • iMac (Early 2009 or newer)
  • Mac Mini (Mid 2010 or newer)
  • Mac Pro (Early 2009 with AirPort Extreme card, or Mid 2010)
*The MacBook Pro (17-Inch Late 2008) and the white MacBook (Late 2008) do not support AirDrop.

Source: Using AirDrop with OS X Lion, Mountain Lion or Mavericks

Mac Basics: AirDrop lets you send files from your Mac to nearby Macs and iOS devices

Hey Rob ,

I have the same annoying problem - MacBook Pro 2010 and ipad 4th generation - and AirDrop won't work. Did you manage to have it working? If so, can you share how u did it?

Best regards

James

In order to take advantage of AirDrop there are certain hardware and software requirements that you need to have in order for this to work:

Use AirDrop between iOS device to iOS device: has to be running at least iOS 7 and has to have a Lightning connector
Use AirDrop between iOS device and Mac: the iOS device has to be running iOS 8 and has to have a Lightning connector. the Mac needs to be running OS X Yosemite and needs to be a 2012 or newer iMac, 2012 or newer MacBook Air, 2012 or newer MacBook Pro, 2012 or newer Mac Mini or Late 2013 Mac Pro
AirDrop between Mac and Mac: needs to be an early 2009 iMac or newer, late 2008 or newer MacBook (except for the white late 2008 model), late 2010 or newer MacBook Air, late 2008 or newer MacBook Pro (except for the late 2008 17″ model), mid 2010 or newer Mac Mini, and early 2009 with AirPort Extreme Card or mid 2010 or newer Mac Pro
