AT&T locked ipad3

Hi guys. Just got an ipad3 from a friend from US. He said it's carrier locked. Question is, can I use the 3G on any carrier in the middle east? Tried to put a sim but cannot locate a network. Can this be unlocked? many thanks in advance...

I thought iPads were unlocked but try unlock fusion it's 9 bucks I know it works for phones but I would ask about iPads

All iPads sold in the US should be carrier unlocked. And for 3G GSM it should work worldwide.

I was thinking the same thing too that's why I bought his ipad3 but when i put the sim from a local carrier it just couldnt find the network.. also, he just mentioned(after 5 days) that he bought it from at&t that comes along with a data plan.. thanks..

Try a restore ? Then try the sim or maybe try a new sim ?

Only Verizon's was carrier unlocked.

I don't know what is going on in this particular case, but I'm certain that iPads are unlocked at least in the US. The only thing that won't work for 3G service is an AT&T iPad on Verizon but that's because the AT&T one doesn't support CDMA. However both the Verizon and AT&T iPads support the same 3G GSM network so your should be able to take a Verizon iPad and use an AT&T SIM for 3G service. LTE is a bit different because Verizon and AT&T are using different frequency bands so the LTE service is "locked" but only in the sense that it is incapable of working on the other network, not that the carriers have locked it.
