Only can play purchased music on iPad 2

During a session to purchase music from iTunes Store, all other music in my library became inaccessible; only purchased music plays now. It appears that all other music is stored in iCloud although I haven't purchased Match. I've checked settings but see nothing that looks like it is causing it.

Since you don't have iTunes Match, you'll need to connect your iPad to your computer and sync your music that way. Welcome to iMore!!!

Thanks very much for your response. Further question.......if I normally manually sync (because I have way more songs on my computer library than I can fit on my iPad), how would you suggest syncing?

I'd choose to sync playlists or specific albums that you want to have on it
