Can anyone help me...

I have had my iPad 2 more less than a year and never really understood iMessage till tonight... I have tried to set it up but it wont let me... I go into messages, the first think it asks me for is my log in details for apple, so i log in...it then comes up with a pop up asking for me to put in my password, so I do and hit ok... it takes me to a new page where it askes me to put in my email address and hit next... i do at this point it says "unable to verify email because it is already in use"

Please can any one help me with this?

Just try adding another email such as your iCloud or any other secondary email you might have. Maybe you share that email with somebody with another Apple ID.

When it asks for your email address, enter your Apple ID. Also, login to and verify your information.

Thank you very much, added a different email and it has worked! Any idea why my original didn't work? I have no recollection of it being used anywhere else!
