Hi all, just what the title says, yesterday I noticed an outfit was selling brand new iPad 2's for $350. I'm not the biggest apple fan, being an IT professional and working on mostly PC's. I also hate the way apple has changed the earth into zombieland getting people to pay their ridiculous prices. You can get a full blown laptop for less than the lowest iPad model, i'm sorry but my logic says that's insane. So that's why I bought the old and outdated iPad 2 for $350. I've played with and setup iPhones and iPad's at work and have always liked them, I won't deny apple's products are well made, but I will never be an official fan of them because of their prices. I've posted this because i'd like to hear other people's thoughts. They will most likely be negative because this is basically the apple section of this site, but I welcome them.

Im thinking of picking up the "old, outdated" iPad 2 too, not sure if the new one is worth the extra $$

If it works for you, that's all that matters. I don't think getting the "new iPad" has anything to do with people being Apple fans. It's just some want 4x the pixels, better camera, and/or having LTE. All it matters is that you are happy with your purchase.

Although the new iPad has been released, the iPad 2 is by no means old and outdated. It is a very powerful and capable device and is well liked. As for being Apple fanboys/fangirls, many people do not consider themselves as such for various reasons, however, we all agree that Apple's products are well built, looks great, easy to use and simply work. Hopefully, you will find your new purchase worth it. Take care and enjoy your new Apple product.

I love my iPad 2. I use it a LOT. I would never have bought it. I was lucky enough to win mine. Apple's hardware is stellar, though. Nothing else compares.

Last winter I bought my first Mac (11" MacBook Air) because I needed a Mac for my 2nd job. The prices are outrageous. Even after more than a year, I still prefer the Windows operating system (although I believe Windows 8 will be a joke). But the hardware of my little Air outshines anything that runs Windows, and it's a shame.

Even though I now have the new iPad, I don't consider the iPad 2 to be "old and outdated". Both tabs are great and offer the user a good experience. My suggestion is to make a list of the pros and cons of owning each tab and go from there. If the iPad 2 seems to be the best fit for your needs at this time buy it and enjoy!

Thats the past strategy. And the difference is not so much in the performance but in the look and the vision. But there are no real new features.

I went with the ipad 2 as well, retina display wasn't that impressive to me in comparison, and the only other real difference I wanted was the bluetooth 4.0 but it's not worth 100 bucks to me. BTW, who uses their ipad to take pictures, the camera on the new one isn't all that great either, i'll stick with using my camera, or my iphone for taking pictures

I picked an 2 up on Friday after the 3 was announced for $399 from the Apple store.
So $350 was a good deal for the OP.

Good Luck

I'm absolutely NOT a brand zombie. I even ditched apple a while back because I was mad at iTunes/iPod for their deathgrip on my ripped music.

But...

If you aren't going to be a tool FOR a brand, you can't be one against it and say you are any better.

I use mostly apple stuff again. As an obsessive product analyzer, I can honestly say that, spec-for-spec the apple products are competitive in price, with almost no premium for the insanely great design cues that come with them.

Price out a 256gb flash HD 13in notebook and look at the components... Then come back and tell me that a MacBook Air is not competitive in price (and flat out sexier).

I'd be happy to eat my words, but I've been shopping for a new light laptop lately... There simply isn't a better option for the specs.

And the iPad essentially has NO competition simply because nobody can match their specs for price (and don't b!tch about Foxconn. You own clothes, a tv, and a computer... You should hope that they were all made in facilities that nice and at the pay that Foxconn workers get).

What is the point you are trying to make, if you don't mind me asking?

Not to be rude but since u asked for feedback....here's mine. Sometimes u get what u pay more. I've owned PC's for years & I've always used them in an office environment as well. I started out using MP3 players...tried several brands, they all sucked & never lasted long. I never wanted to fork over the money for an iPod however I was lucky Xmas 2008 & received a nice bonus. I was able to purchase a iPod Classic (120GB)...it changed my music experience & I learned a valuable lesson abt the importance of quality.
My iPod still works excellent. Purchasing Apple products is no different than purchasing a quality car.
I would rather own a Honda over a Chevy or Ford any day. Honda has quality vehicles that "when properly maintained" can be passed down from generation to generation. A Ford Escort is not a better quality car than a Honda Civil. Yes the customer will pay more on the front end however purchasing quality products is better in the long run.....no extra repairs due to lack of quality. I now own several Apple products & do not regret one purchase. Plus their customer service is top notch. Sure to each is their own but do not judge Apple Fans. Everyone makes a decision on what's important....price or quality. Plus it's not like Apple is charging an arm & a leg then producing crap products. Personally I'm willing to cut back on Starbucks, eating out several times per week & only purchase season tickets to home games of my favorite sports team. Everyone has a vice...their are ppl that pay 1K for season tickets every year to watch their favorite sports team. So choosing to purchase Apple products instead is no different....IMO.

I got the new iPad because I wanted it, but the iPad 2 is sufficient for most.

I have a perfectly fine iPad 2 (AT&T, 64gb) I'm trying to get rid of if you want... let me know.

I stuck with the iPad 1 until the new iPad came out. The iPad 2 just was not worth the upgrade, but going from the original to the new one is huge. Biggest improvement is the display, but the speed increase is also great. Much of the speed is actually the 1GB memory because task swapping is incredibly fast now. The memory increase is an often overlooked aspect of the new iPad.

I wouldn't consider an iPad 2 old or outdated by any means.... if I weren't the big tech junky that I am, I'd probably still have an iPad 2 but I roll with the punches because I'm a geek. I'll be passing down my grandma's OLD AND OUTDATED first gen iPad to my 7.5 year old brother though. She'll have the iPad 2 soon too and she's excited. So you should be excited as well. Considering they don't make Windows tablets.... yet.....

iPad 2 is not old, or outdated. I am actually going to pick one up later today at Best Buy. Trying to save $100 and be able to get it immediately! Lol
