I see Apple advertising that iOS9 will take up less room than iOS 8 does, 4.58 GB compared to 1.3GB respectively. Does that mean that the extra 3.28GB of space will be returned to iPhone users to do with as they please? Are the beta users seeing this now?

I may be wrong, but thats the free amount of space needed on your device to download the new iOS 9.0 , and they are going to first delete some of your apps to allow room for the install. Afterwards, those apps will automatically be reinstalled. Again, I think that's right.

Great Question ... I didn't check my free space before I installed the beta to check. Hmmm, I will check when I upgrade my wife's phone when the next beta comes out.

lackster2 is correct. That 1.3 gb is just the space needed for the update to take place. After the update is completed, space iOS 9 takes on the device should be about the same. There's usually been a small increase with each new iOS.
