There are some websites claiming I can do that. I've actually downloaded the ipsw of the iOS 9 beta 1 but haven't installed it. Will my iPhone cease to work if I do? Or it won't install

No, it's not ready for a general public download. That will come most likely September 16th. There will be a public beta soon, but you still have to register.

Risk v/s Return - it does not hurt waiting for the public beta + you won't have a lot issues that are in beta 1 right now.

If the rumors of iOS 9 beta 1 having the same loophole that was allegedly present in the early iOS 8 betas before being patched by Apple are correct then yes, you can install iOS 9 beta 1 without having to need to register your UUID. With that in mind, let's say you opted to ignore wisdom and install iOS 9 beta 1. If Apple patched the alleged loophole with iOS 9 beta 2, you could end up with an unusable device until iOS 9 is available to the public. Why risk it? I'd wait, if I were you.

No issues installing non development or beta. Just shift click update in iTunes and run the beta with all of there issues. I would say never do the beta 1 for dev. Beta 2 is usually usable. Beta 3+ I use on daily device.

I installed beta 2 on iPhone 5 without registering UUID or having an apple developer account, and so far so good, it's a beta so be ready to have some bumps. Battery is somewhat better than in Beta 1 but not by much. I like living on the EDGE and am OK with it. If you decide to go ahead, do it at your own risk. :)
