Why am I not getting Mail alerts (iOS8)?

Mail alerts - ios8

When mail is received via the mail app, there is a delay in the sound or vibration alert, or sometimes no notification at all.

Is there some way to fix this?

I enjoy this same feature. A few times I've received an email while working on the phone, I open the email, and then exit to the home screen and lock the phone and put it in my pocket, only to have the notification sound after I've pocketed the phone. Pretty funny at first. Now a little annoying. My iPhone 6 seems pretty unpredictable, notification-wise, compared to my past BlackBerry devices.

Did you check the notification settings to see if the notifications were enabled? Settings > Notifications > Mail?

Yep. The notifications are all enabled. Still inconsistent enough to keep me entertained. Other than over-night, my work email (exchange based) seems reliable, so I'm not that worried about the rest.
