iPad Mini iOS 8 Painfully Slow!

I have the original iPad Mini and I'm not sure about anyone else but it's nearly unstable on iOS 8!

There's so much lag I often type and 10 seconds later the characters appear. Opening apps is painfully slow and I often give up and use my iPhone 6. I'm not saying it's slow compared to my iPhone 6 or anything it's just 10x slower than it was on previous iOS versions. It's mainly lag that's the worst. I try and scroll on Google search app and it's unresponsive for a few seconds!

Anyone else notice this?

Are you on iOS 8.01/02 or 8.1? I have a Mini 1 and Mini 2 and I noticed that 8.01/02 was terribly slow, but once I upgraded to 8.1, it was much more responsive.

Not on my iPad Mini. when you upgraded to iOS 8 or 8.1, did you do it OTA or did you set it up as a new device. I did the latter and my iPad Mini performs quite well.

I'm on 8.1 and updated OTA.

I didn't notice any issues on 8.0 or 8.0.2 it's just recently on 8.1.

The think is I'm quite OCD so I never have any apps open except the one I'm currently using and I never keep photos in my camera roll and I clear my browsing history immediately after using safari etc so there's nothing to really cause any lag resulted issues. iCloud backup wasn't running at the time etc so nothing like that. Even my battery usage doesn't show anything other than the apps I've been using and even then it's quite mild. I'd understand if there was the TomTom app open or something memory intensive but there's not.

It's really annoying as I type something in the Google search box and nothing happens then 5-10secs later my delayed text appears one character at a time like it was being typed out rather than all at once. If I'm browsing the asos app the screen is unresponsive when I try to scroll and then 5 secs later it catches up and I have pages of scrolling where I tried scrolling a bunch of times as nothing was happening then it catches up and I end up with dozens of scrolling pages. Even the app switcher is laggy. I doubt tap the home button and there's a few seconds delay before the thumbnails appear!

It's worth mentioning it's not like this all the time. I'd say about 40% of the time it's laggy.

My original Mini became very slow and was practically unusable. It crashed out and even started lagging. I did a fresh install and set up as new, didn't help one bit.

Finally bit the bullet and got the Mini 3.

I got 3 original minis all on 8.1. I never stop apps or clear anything and they all run great. Maybe it's the Google search app. I stopped using that once the Google now cards where added.

Nah I don't have google now activated and search history and location reporting is all off and I close it from running after each use. It's slow just double tapping the home button to close the open apps after use. Really annoying. It's ok some of the time but recently it's been a pain. Hope it's software related.

My mothers mini does the same thing and I can't use it at all after using the 6+ its almost non-tolerable. The rMini on the other hand works wonderfully.

I think it's because of the pretty old hardware. Even at launch the mini was dated. Maybe with 8.2 or whatever that will help it, but most like this is the last OS updates the original mini will receive

I noticed a lot of lag in the reinsert of touch. It seems the iPad is doing a lot of thinking and I just wait. It has improved since 8.1 upgrade.

Haha I'm not going to upgrade my mini. It's not even two years old yet haha. I don't really use it that much to be honest, it's more for traveling or when I'm charging my iPhone.

I think it's speed is made worse because I'm using my iPhone 6 day to day but even still it's dog slow. It never used to be slow and I'm not sure at which firmware revision it changed. At present even opening and closing apps has lots of lag. It's like you press the home button and a second or so later it responds which is really tiresome when you are flicking between apps.

I couldn't deal with it, my Mini was so slow I just couldn't use it in my daily routine. I'm very partial to using the Mini in the morning and at night. So upgrading was a great decision.

Yeah to be fair I actually understand where you're coming from. The thing is I don't rely on my iPad for anything so can't justify buying another. I mean when I'm using it heavily it's watching videos or reading books on holiday or travelling and for these apps it's fine. It's just the odd day I use it whilst my 6 is charging or I fancy a change. It's made worse as I'm used to the speed of the 6 now but still shouldn't be that slow. It's literally like using the original iPhone again.

Since I returned my 6 because it was defective and opted to stay with a 5s, the Mini is great for a bigger screen. I do rely on it a lot because it's got more storage than my 5s too. I'm the type who will keep my iPad for quite a while but I'll upgrade my phone every few months. So all the pictures and important information would be on the Mini...

Haha I'm the opposite. I keep all my important stuff on my 6 and my mini is just for shopping and videos and books.
