I am currently running the latest 8.1 Beta. I went to check for updates now and was notified that the download size will be 2.2 GB.

What's with Apple, and update sizes now?!

I am currently traveling abroad, and all I have is a limited mobile broadband running in a Mobile Hotspot device, the carrier is not even supporting LTE yet. Such update will take me not less than three or four hours, and will really consume a lot of my quota :/

Just a case of doing your homework before installing betas.

And consider yourself lucky that you can even OTA to the public release from a beta. Usually you have to update through iTunes

I upgraded my iPhone 6 Plus and my retina iPad Mini this morning. Both were running 8.0.2. The OTA download for the iPhone was about 92MB and the iPad was 97MB.

It’s most definitely a function of the software release that you are currently running compared to the new version. The deltas are different sizes because of the differences in the code currently on your device.

As Karen has said, being that you were on a beta means that you had a lot of code to update. A 2.2GB delta is pretty significant.

I just updated a co-worker on 8.0 and it was 2.2gb to download.

I didn't OTA my devices so mine were all the full ipsw.

I will download it through iTunes instead, since I am wasting 2.2 GBs anyways it's better that I keep a backup of the ipsw in case I ever need it again.
