iPad Safari Bookmarks Changes

A little thing here that maybe I don't get: After calling up bookmarks, they won't go away until you tap on the bookmarks icon a second time.

Can anyone come up with a design / functional justification that I'm not seeing?

As a side note, it just looks bad. Very jerky, in terms of graphic smoothness. It's just hard to believe that it was designed this way.

I hate it too! Wish the bookmarks window would go away when you chose one to open.

So does anyone have a solution for this? I just set up my iPad as a new device in an attempt to fix it. No dice. Why is this happening?
