Can I get gmail alerts to display without revealing the content of the mail?

On the lock screen / message center, I would like to have my new gmail alerts to show without revealing the content of the mail (just as I've set for the SMS).

Is that a possibility - and how? I simply cannot find it.

Re: Can I have gmail only showing anonymous notification?

If you're using the native Mail app, then yes. Go to Settings - Notifications - Mail - Gmail and then scroll to the bottom and deselect "Show Preview".

Okay, thanks. But the native mail app cannot push GMAIL mails, can it?

I use the GMAIL app - is there no way it can only show preview?

I don't use the Gmail app and haven't used it for quite some time so I do not know. Sorry. As for the native mail app not pushing Gmail, true, but I usually get my the few gmail messages I receive almost instantly.

I feel the same way and have suggested to Google to include the option to turn off "message preview" in Gmail app notifications but I'm afraid it's not possible that I know of.

If it was set up as an Exchange account, it might be Push still--as far as I know, accounts that were set up while Gmail was still supporting Push on iOS via Exchange are grandfathered in under most circumstances. So maybe that's what's happening for D.
