iOS7 not showing $ sign

Ever since I've upgraded to iOS7 (iPhone 5) all of my apps showing a $ sign are instead showing the symbol in the attached image. Any ideas? It's happening with multiple apps so it shouldn't be the app.

You can change the currency symbol - and the way how numbers are displayed in general by going to the iPhones settings --> General --> International --> Region Format where you can change the format to an region of your liking.
