I want to jailbreak my iPad, but I bought it with iOS 6.1.3. I downloaded iOS 6.1.2 for iPad, and when you shift-click "restore" in iTunes, you can choose the iOS that I downloaded.
A restore usually erases all data. How can I change the iOS without losing data?
I think iCloud backups store data, but do they work over different operating Systems?

Well I think that you will lose everything to just JB but I don't know enough about JB and an alternate OS. Hopefully bare with us and someone more knowledgeable than me will come along with the right answer. Thanks.

You can't downgrade from 6.1.3 to 6.1.2. Won't work because once you click on the 6.1.2 ipsw it will verify it with apple and it will come back saying that it is no longer a valid software version for your iPad :/ your stuck at 6.1.3 and without a jailbreak :( sorry to be the bearer of bad news :/

But: you can tethered jailbreak any a4 chipset device, i tethered jailbroken my iphone 4 running at 6.1.3

Just download the ios 6.0 ipws and select it in redsnow and jailbreak, after jailbreaking is done shut down, now close and reopen redsnow (to prevent key.plist error), select ios 6.0 ipws and just boot.

Theoretically, updating your iPad to iOS 7 then downgrading to 6.1.2 is possible. Look at this thread. I don't know if it would work, hopefully someone could test it. (Assuming updating to the beta will not wipe data, which I can't find on the internet)
