Do you have Data Roaming ON or OFF? (US folks mostly)
Settings->General->Cellular
I usually leave mine off. I am testing something right now and wanted to know if anyone has it on or off and if you have any issues with your bill with it on."Balls!" said the Queen, "if I had them I'd be King!" - 12-14-2012, 12:04 PM #2
Re: Do you have Data Roaming ON or OFF? (US folks mostly)
I usually leave it off, but it's really not an issue because I basically get good coverage everywhere I go with Verizon even while traveling to & from Orlando on occasion.

Ame, like D, I leave mine off. I've never had a reason to need to turn it on.

Re: Do you have Data Roaming ON or OFF? (US folks mostly)
The time when one might want to have it OFF is when one is near the National Border and might "accidentally" find their phone will connect to an international provider's network unexpectedly resulting in surprises on bills.

I leave it on. Been in some rural areas where additional coverage was needed. It's free if in USA anyway. No reason to leave it off.

Re: Do you have Data Roaming ON or OFF? (US folks mostly)
I turned mine on yesterday in an experiment to see if I would remedy this loss of signal issue. So far so good but that might just be bec I haven't had that issue. I am not near any borders with other countries, unless Illinois counts, so hopefully that shouldn't be an issue. I did let AT&T know I was attempting this experiment...just as a test.

Re: Do you have Data Roaming ON or OFF? (US folks mostly)
Off. My data plan is national, so no issue there - but live / travel close enough to a national border to wish to avoid accidental heinous 'international roaming' charge if signal accidentally bounced to wrong tower. Also, just to avoid inadvertently leaving it on when I do more significant travel. And, on those occasions, I'm happy to leave my connectivity to free Wi-Fi only.

Always on, with VZW. Might as well never have to worry about signal issues. I never leave the country though.

Re: Do you have Data Roaming ON or OFF? (US folks mostly)
always on, and i'm on Sprint and my 4s NEVER EVER roams. I simply get no data. Happened to day. It happens all the time. i have not issue with data. My I have unlimited on sprint. But like i said it never ever flips to verizon data. I've even gone into places that i know gets no sprint data with my friend and his verizon phone and my sprint phone never jumps to verizon data. It just sits there getting no data. i rarely leave the u.s. so i don't worry about international charges.

Re: Do you have Data Roaming ON or OFF? (US folks mostly)
I'm on AT&T and mine's almost always on in the US. AT&T is by far, the best national carrier up here (though Verizon is coming next year, finally). Alaska's the only state without Verizon coverage.
When I've traveled overseas, I've turned it off, to avoid incurring data roaming charges. I will usually call AT&T and discuss each country I'm going to, so I'm fully aware of the risks and the costs. If I'm traveling outside the US, though, just to be safe, I'll purchase the lowest int'l data roaming package (I think it's 50MB for $25), just in case. I'll also disable mail push and fetch, so if I happen to turn on roaming briefly, it won't try to download mail in the background. Having the 50MB lets me download visual voicemails, though. I also live in Alaska and when I'm close to the Canadian border, I'm sure to turn it off.
My girlfirend has a 4S on Sprint, and coverage here is really weird in Alaska. She leaves it on, as Sprint doesn't have true coverage here, and she's roaming on Alaska Communications (ACS), usually, but when we travel outside the big cities, she'll usually get her data turned off by Sprint due to using too much roaming data. To say we're rural out here is an understatement.Last edited by impaler; 12-18-2012 at 01:41 PM.

Mine's set to off, but I don't think it matters much either way. I get good Verizon service around here and I'm not near any international borders.

Re: Do you have Data Roaming ON or OFF? (US folks mostly)
Interesting. Here in Sydney Australia, if cellular is off the only data coverage is wifi hotspots (home and freebie).
Usually depends on our plan as to having cellular on or off (I think we have a lot more choice of carriers and plans here).
