Okay, so I have to see the dentist. What is the difference between me putting it on my calendar on my phone vs. setting it up as a reminder? Is there a basic difference here? I do notice that if I set it up as a reminder, it does not show on my calendar. is there an easier way here or what am I missing?

Also, do others use some better calendar/reminder app? Is there an easier way to enter them?

I put appointments in my Calendar. I use Reminders for shopping lists, things to do, etc. I set alerts for the reminders as well so I can instantly see when I have some outstanding.

As long as you have the calendar sync enabled in your Mail, Contacts, Calendar settings.

I just did that and am exploring. Is there like a google calendar app to give more options for appointments? the Apple interface is very basic. Didn't see one but was wondering.

there are lots of calender apps that will give you more options. I use Agenda and Week Cal, but like I said there a ton. Search the forums for "Calender Replacement"

I use Google Calendar for appointments such as work, parties, hair cut, doctors appointments, etc.

I use reminders for shopping list and a to-do list. Examples include "hang up picture in hallway" or "deposit check in the bank".

Calendar for time-sensitive items
Reminders for daily to-do list
Straight from my Franklin Planner days. ( their software use to get corrupted almost weekly on my PalmPilot. Loved the binder.
Anyway
So in my case, a dental appointment would go on my Calendar. Picking up stuff from the grocery would go on Reminders

Good Luck
