All my info is current and up to date on google. When I get my new iphone 5 I want all of my google info synced to the phone and that is all. I want changes made on the phone or on google to go to the other. Starting from scratch is there anything I need to do other than setup gmail as a exchange account on the phone and turn on the items I wish to sync?

No. Once you configure your google account and turn ON contacts, your contacts will auto-sync to your iPhone 5.

This is the key... set your Gmail credentials up as an Exchange account, not a Gmail account. FYI, you only have 3 things to "turn on" at that point... mail, contacts and calendars. Also... tip, if you have multiple calendars and they aren't showing up on your iPhone go to m.google.com/sync to "check" any/all calendars your want to sync
