The new Apple Maps

Does anyone know whether the maps app uses data-navigation or strictly GPS-navigation?

I think it's a combo of both. I tried using it yesterday while on a call (Verizon) and the blue GPS pin showed up but the map never populated

That won't happen if you use an app made for navigation that stores maps on the phone... justsayin'

Well this is why I was thinking its data nav bc I didn't download any maps. I thought that I had seen it written up somewhere that it was GPS nav

It is GPS nav... but you gotta download maps in the native app... if you're using something like Navigon, the maps are on your phone.
