I have a 64 gig iPad 3 with 700 Meg's of free space, will I need to make space to install iOS 6? I'm new to all things Apple, this will be my first iOS update.

i believe you'll be fine since during the restore it removes the existing OS. iOS 6 is around 900 mb

but if you're worried about it you can remove something and load it back later

I'm not worried for my iPhone 4s (or my wife's), but my son has an iPod 4Gen with 8GB and its always pretty full. How much space should I make sure is free before I run the update on it?

Your 4th generation iPod touch will require at least 2.3GB of free space before you can download & install iOS 6.

I upgraded mine the morning it came out (Australian time) and had to delete a large chunk of media/apps before I had the space free.

Tip: Force an iCloud Backup before you start freeing up space, then restore the iPod from the latest backup. It's less hassle than trying to re-install the apps & media you had to clear individually.
