Multiple Text Messages misses?

Has anyone ever noticed when you have a couple text messages waiting on your lock screen for you to view you unlock your phone to read them and there is a third one before those two that you never saw on your lock screen? i had to little ones to read then i unlocked my phone and there was a big long one before the two little ones but i never saw it on my lock screen and it just didn't seem to show up unless i message it?

also i viewed my lock screen and there was no text message there. then i go to unlock my phone and i have a little number "1" on my message app. how did it get there? i never did anything to the phone, why didnt the message show up on my lock screen first?
