Lock Screen question

Are you not supposed to be able to tap on a notification on the lock screen and go to it? I thought that was one of the new features... I can see them, but still have to swipe to open.

I misspoke - I meant i had to swipe to open the lock screen, not the notification... I don't seem to be able to swipe on a message, email, etc, to open it from the lock screen.

You need to swipe from the far left of the banner i.e. starting with your figner on the mini-icon

Is there anyway to dismiss it from the notification without opening it?

Not from the lockscreen it would appear. However once you press the top button it shrinks and files itself more discreetly near the top of the screen; this is as close to 'dismissing' an alert as seems possible from the lockscreen.
