3GS and IOS 5 issue

there is an issue, wherein the 3GS is unable to detect the sim post installation of iOS 5. Effectively the phone is unable to complete the activation ( either on WiFi or through iTunes)

as per apple support discussion boards it seems to be an issue with the iOS..

anyone who know's a solution ? other than a jailbreak workaround
