Help! Backup issues with iOS5

Help!

I just installed the new iTunes 10 and then upgraded my iPhone with the new iOS5. For what it seems, I thought it backed up my iPhone before it installed the new software.

After the back up, my iPhone was restored and the back up I had was completely empty. No notes, no contacts, no SMS messages and everything else in between.

Is there hope for my contacts? It was never synced on my windows contacts. Is there hope for me to revert to the older software and restore my old back iPhone back up?

I'm desperate. I feel like I just died.

Have you tried a couple of re-sync's? Neither my music or photo's were restored when I upgraded from v4.3.5 to v5. A couple of sync's did the trick.
