Upgrade from iOS 5 IPSW file?

I have the .ipsw file I downloaded from a non apple site. WHat do I need to do to directly use that to go to iOS 5? I understand I will be wiping my phone and thats ok.

Do a manual restore. If you're on a Mac hold the option key and click restore. Windows hold shift and click restore. Then locate the file you downloaded.

Tried that and got an error. Thought I did something wring, maybe the servers are acting up.
