How come some peoples updates worked and others did not?

why did some people have luck with the update and others keep getting error and bad updates/won't work?

exactly what you said I guess, luck. I know that i often have bad luck with updates but I managed to get both my iPad and iPhone done within an hour

He's right. The lucky ones got through the flooded servers. Others may have to wait. It's all a matter of Apple's servers having half the world trying to update at once, that's all.
