I had this error 3X while attempting to update as it attempted the backup. I disconnected my iphone, plugged it back in and ran the update as prompted and it worked this time. Just a heads up as the preferred way to fix error 5000 normally seems to involve wiping the device. This seemed to work fine, I'm not sure if its a coincidence or because maybe the servers were being hammered. Basically be patient.
