Do universal apps show up on both iPhone and iPad? because i seem to be missing a large portion when searching iPhone.

Isn't the "compatible for" <devices listed> meant to indicate which will work on iPhone and which will work on iPad, and thus would then mean it "universal app" ?

Some apps, like Dropbox, Evernote, Microsoft OneDrive, etc., offers apps for both the iPhone and iPad, and those apps are formatted to display properly on both. Others may simply be iPhone apps that display in an oversized manner on the iPad. Yes, they are technically "universal" in the context you've mentioned, but are a sight for sore eyes.
