Handoff in iOS 10

How do I do the handoff using my iPhone 7 and iPad Air 2 . In both I have enabled but nothing I can see .Does Mail work ,and which other apps work on it .Is there some other setting that I have to enable ? Tnx

It should ask you to authenticate on the other device. Are both devices signed into Apple on the same name / email / password?

Yes ,both same account ,
