Understanding Apple Music

Some people whose opinions I could not value more highly have wondered out loud why Apple Music, the new Music app for iOS, and latest version of iTunes on the Mac turned out the way they did. I've not spoken to anyone at Apple about the decision process but I've spent years trying to understand the company, have a background in design and product marketing, and have thought about exactly this. A lot. Here are those thought in writing.
