Why does my iMac freeze halfway through the bootup sequence?

Why does my Imac freeze halfway thru the bootup sequence? Help Please.

My Imac has been getting slower and slower and rebooting never really seemed to help. Last time I tried it will only go about halfway thru the loading sequence and then the progress bar freezes and after 24 hours has not moved.......

I cannot recall what the last update to IOS was......

I don't know, and I can only *assume* corruption of some sort. It may be time to start over with a fresh install of whatever Mac OS you're running or, if you have a Time Machine backup, restore to a time prior to the problem starting.

Welcome to iMore! I recommend booting into Recovery Mode and running a system restore. If it's a software issue that should fix it. If it's hardware then you're going to want to take it in for servicing.
