Can you use one AppleID for iTunes and another for iCloud on same iPhone?

My original iTunes account (Apple ID) was set up with a hotmail.com address back when all I had was an iPod. I've decided to move to a primarily Apple-based ecosystem away from Google and Microsoft as much as possible, and my first step was a new iPhone.

Along with the new iPhone, I also have a shiny new iCloud.com address. Unfortunately, this is an Apple ID in it's own right, so I can't change the email address of the old ID to this icloud address, nor can I merge the two Apple IDs.

Can I set up my iPhone to use the old ID (hotmail.com) just for iTunes and the App store, and the new ID (icloud.com) for everything else (mail, contacts, calendar, notes, photos)?

You should be able to do it. My Wife uses my Apple ID for iTunes, but has her own iCloud, iMessage and Facetime ID's.
