iCloud Syncing Vs Backing up help...
I am sort of confused about how all this works. i have never turned my icloud back up switch "on" but someone told me today that all your contacts calendars reminders notes ect back up even if your icloud storage switch is "off". is this true? how does it work? so finally i decided to turn the icloud storage and backup switch on today for the first time and it told me now itunes wont automatically back up when i plug it in to itunes. can u still back it up to the computer to be safe even though i turned the icloud back up switch on? i have used about 20 gigs of space on my phone and it says i have 1.5 available and i have used 3.5 gigs of icloud storage space so how is that possible if when i go to settings and about my phone it says ive used 20.2 Gigs. im totally confused. what does icloud really back up when you choose to turn the switch on? i am just really confused about the syncing/ backing up process and even though switch is off it still backs stuff up? so why turn it on? sorry for all the questions but hopefully someone can help me. thanks

iCloud backup your data virtually. Backup on computer is where you backup the same stuff on the computer.
I am thinking this is due to apps data etc?
Yes you can select anyone of them. I usually turn on iCloud for auto. Whenever I am plugged into my iTunes via USB, I will select manual backup to computer just to be save.
So now, does this clears your doubt?

Another source of potential confusion is with iCloud sync for contacts, etc. vs iCloud backups.
Having sync turned on is separate from back-ups. Sync does just that - with iCloud sync set to on, contacts, calendars, notes, etc. will sync to iCloud without regard to iCloud back-ups being on or off.Keith - iMore Moderator - The Mobile Nations/iMore Forum Rules

I have iCloud back up turned on and I have used 20.2 GB of space on my phone due to photos videos songs documents apps ect. That is what my computer back up is showing. If my iCloud back up is the exact same as my computer back up then how am I getting away with only using 3.5 GB on my icloud and still having the same exact backup after my computer and iTunes tells me I have 20.2 GB backed up?

iCloud don't back up music and videos just app data settings mail contacts etc so the 3.5 u see used it app data and settings the rest on your phone the (20 gig including the 3.5 )is your video and.music .. If you restored that stuff you would have to resync with iTunes to get back

I have restored twice and once inside apple .. Even the apple guy told me you don't get music back and movies .. Your friend could have had iTunes match I don't have that so im not sure if that seperate service restores the music or not but if you go in your iCloud setting you can see your backups and see what it backed up ..
.. When I restored I got my apps .. Pics that were on my camera roll .. My mail accounts .. Notes .. Settings .. But I had to reload my movies and music
