Will I be able to not have to use a PC based version iTunes for anything with iOS 5?

Total iOS noob here. See question below for more proof.

I haven't used iTunes in many years and use another program to sync music with my iPod. I don't have any plans to use my phone as a music device either. If I do plan on putting media on my device, will it have to be from iTunes on my computer or will I be able to upload a song and download it from iCloud and use the native iTunes app to play it?

Should not need itunes if you are buying the music from the store on iphone.
