It's nutrition week day 5, how clean are you eating today?

--

It's Fitness Month week 2, and that means nutrition, and that means our Eating Clean contest! Every day this week there'll be a thread in our health and fitness forums, and all you have to do to enter is tell us what you ate during the day. The idea is to get a little community pressure going so we all eat less junk food and more healthy, tasty meals and snacks. If you have a food tracker, a Withings scale, or any other device that helps you out, you can simply share your results each day!

This is a great way to keep us all motivated and accountable, and get a little healthy peer-pressure going! Plus, every day you enter is a chance to win a $20 gift certificate! How's that for motivation?!

So get ready, and get posting in the thread below!

Just completed my afternoon snack... it consisted of:

1/2 cup Greek yogurt
60g fresh blueberries
1/4 cup of Sprouts bulk raisin granola
24 whole raw almonds.

The nutrition:
Calories: 250
Carbs: 32g
Fat: 15g
Protein: 21g

I started cleaning up my act on 19 Jan 2013. Since that time I have had
No soda (Diet Pepsi by the case before - went "cold turkey")
No salt added to anything I’ve eaten or prepared
No fried foods
No chips, cookies, cake, pretzels or popcorn
No processed white flour
No foods/additives/preservatives that my 8 year old granddaughter can’t read or pronounce

The snack (above) would have been something that I "passed" on in favor of something fattening or unhealthy.

In the same time frame I have eaten:
Leafy greens every day
Fresh fruit
Fresh vegetables
Cottage cheese
Greek yogurt
Healthy fats (olive oil, avocados, fresh raw nuts)
Water by the gallon. (I average about 12 cups per day)
Fresh seafood (wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon is my favorite)

Cottage cheese and fruit for lunch, probably shrimp for supper (man, I love living on the gulf coast!). Can't get much better.

Today's cuisine highlight was a "french lunch" - high quality bread, brie and grapes. The other meals were mostly fruits.

Dinner tonight chicken green beans brown rice and a spinach salad. Washed it down with a glass if water. I have been soda free since the 1st of the year. I used to drink a 6 pack a day.
