[GUIDE] Setting Up A Lockcode On An iOS Device
Setting up a passcode lock on your iPhone or iPad is a way not only to protect you from being a victim of Facebook status pranks, it is also a great way to make your device and the data it contains safer.
You can set something up as simple as a four digit lock code or something extremely complex.. The longer the lock code the harder it is to crack. It is recommend that a minimum of six characters is used. If you use a six or more numerical digits then you will still have the number pad to enter the code. If you choose a lock code with alphanumeric characters the full keyboard will be used to enter the code.
To set a lock out code on your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > General > then Passcode Lock
Once there select the option to Turn Passcode On. If you would like to use a longer than 4 digit passcode, make sure to turn off the Simple Passcode option.
After you enter your new passcode lock and re-enter it to confirm it, you have some other options to select.
First is how long you want the device to wait to require a passcode lock. Choose a time that won't make your device difficult to use, but not so long that a thief would have plenty of time to use the device and get what ever data they wanted if you lost your device. Five or 15 minutes is a good starting point.
Next you need to select whether you want Siri, Passbook and the ability to reply to calls with messages when the device is locked.
Finally, you will need to decide if you want the device wiped if the password is entered incorrectly ten times in a row. This is a great feature to prevent brute force attacks on the lock code, but if you forget your code and need to try more than ten times to guess it your device will be wiped.
With that, go make your device secure and remember the lock code!
