How do I stop my contacts from defaulting to Google Talk?

Continuity / Handoff questions.

I used to be able to send text messages from the message app on my mac to non-iphone contacts with no problem. Now they appear to be defaulting to google talk. First the contacts started turning red and i couldn't send them. After checking my settings they now are defaulting to google talk. Can anyone help me get this back to the way they were? Thanks.

I'd start by removing google talk and see if the problem corrects itself. If it does, then you've got your culprit and will want to search for a way to stop google talk from becoming the default app to handle these messages.
