Well I'm officially over Google and any and all of their products.

This weekend was the last straw, 4th Gmail issue in the past year. I got a notice my account had a likely unauthorized access and a list of IP addresses that looked like my iPhone, my personal laptop, work computer, and then something else.

Then three times over the past year I started to get really random emails that were clearly not for me. I found out in each case that Google let three separate people create apps accounts with the same user name as mine but without a "." in the name. They then started trying to use the gmail that came with those apps accounts but the emails got sent to me. Each time the account remained under my control but it was really annoying and one guy even wanted me to give up my account so he could have it.

I've been using AOL and Hotmail for well over a decade and had ZERO issues.

So forget them, their amateur email service, and their half assed products that are in infinite beta status.

I do feel you a little on this one. I've had about four Google Apps (Business account) with Google, and well, let's just say, I've had enough of paying for them...

But, to be honest, I'm not sure Hotmail or Yahoo are any better. I have both; and I've never been able to setup either on my iPhone and iPad with full success. I guess for email, GMail currently is the lesser of the two evils.

Using gmail to sync is probably the best out if the three. No problems yet touch wood!

For the last 30 minutes or so, I've been looking for alternatives. And, I hate to say it, but, Google seem to have it down pat...

That's the reason I haven't changed yet haha.

Wonder if apple will release their own mail server to go with all that icloud jazz lol

I have had the exact opposite experience... I have had zero gmail issues, whereas my AOL and Hotmail emails have been nothing but buggy, spammed wastes of effort. Don't even get me started on Yahoo... I wish there were another alternative (iCloud, pleasseeeeeeee be this alternative), but as of right now, gmail is the only one that's ever worked wonderfully for me :(

I am also leaving gmail. Didnt have any problems til last thursday when my gmail somehow got hacked and someone was sending porn links to all kinds of hotmail addresses, but they mispelled the @hotmail.com (they spelled it @hotmai.com) so I was getting undeliverable emails which is how I noticed. So I am moving everything to my iCloud account and my @me.com email address.

Well they have a better track record for me, no issues in over a decade vs. 4 for gmail in one year. It only took seconds to setup hotmail via exchange on my iPhone, seems fine. My AOL account doesn't push but I don't need that to push, it's for internet junk only at this point.

I actually am kind of surprised by hotmail/live now. I haven't used it in so long the interface now is much nicer. The account is also super old, my AOL email address was actually the Windows LiveID for the account and emails from Microsoft got sent to my gmail account. Well no more. The new hotmail/live looks pretty sweet, although I don't know how new it is at this point.

I'll give iCloud a fair shake though when it is fully alive.

I sent a test email from work this morning to each address and got each more or less instantly at the same time on my iPhone.

This will be a process of switching to use hotmail again, I changed the domain though to @live.com to get better name selection. Most hotmail names are long gone.

As the week goes on and I get more stuff switched I we shall see how well it performs.

If your account got hacked it's because you use a weak a$$ password. I know you iphone users can't handle anything too complicated but you can use letters, numbers and symbols in your email password. You shouldn't use simple passwords like Hipster25 and JobsLove21.

Also there's Google Authentication but it might be a bit complex for iphone users to handle.

He's right though, if your account got hacked that's a problem on your end, not google's fault. As a long time user of aol, msn, and yahoo I'm glad I switched to google services (at least for my main account). It has been much more reliable for the past few years. I've even used google voice as my main line and for SMS for the past year. I'd rather not be so reliant on one company for everything but I haven't found any better free alternatives.

I'm totally invested in Google. I use it for my email domain hosting (Google Apps), calendars, contacts - everything that's important to me.

The only negative is that I somehow managed to get at least 6 different gmail accounts, and would like to merge them - particularly the Google Voice aspects.

Apple will have to make iCloud more compelling than backing up my iPhone to get me to switch.

Lulz. It seems they'll leave up this comment but not my reply.

For the record, I didn't have a big mac for lunch. But nice try.

We'll leave up your reply as long as you don't call names. There's never any call for that.

For the record, I tend to agree that the issue is probably operator error, but there was no reason for you to say "iPhone users" - makes you sound like a troll and outsider.

Here, here, Alli.

I've been trying for years to get 'force' my users here to use decent passwords with upper\lower case characters, and numbers, and even special characters. But no, they are simply too lazy. New group policy is about to be applied, and they are going to be MAD!

Anyway, sorry for that side step. Back to our regular scheduled programming...

I don't think I could leave Google, even if I ultimately wanted to. I've been using Gmail since right after it's conception... I actually just recommended it to to this new acquaintance who has had issues with losing email accounts linked to previous ISPs and told him to go with Gmail and that way it will exist even if you switch ISPs again.

There would have to be something that was as functional, easy, and effective for me to be able to leave.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of features or what could make the iCloud email service more compelling to make you switch from .gmail to .me?
