Default this cable or accessory is not certified....may not work??????

I am getting so annoyed with this message popping up all the time when my iphone6 is NOT plugged in to a charger or my computer. I am running the most up to date firmware.

Error "This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with this iphone" ?

This does not nor has never happened with my ipad.

And this error message just started about a month or two ago.

Welcome to iMore! Have you tried a hard reset?
Hold the top or side power/sleep button and the home button at the same time until the Apple logo appears, then release.

Also, blow out any debris that may be triggering something inside the lightning adapter port.

    Welcome to iMore!

This can happen if the contacts inside the connection port on your device are dirty or there's dust or grime inside the port. The device then thinks that it has a cable plugged in, even though it doesn't, so it says the connected cable/accessory isn't recognised/certified.

Have a look in the port to see if it needs cleaning out. If it looks completely clean it might be a sign that there's a hardware fault with the port. Having Apple examine it might be the best option at that point.

Oh okay. This has only been happening the past 2-3 months. That message randomly shows up and pops up. And seems to happen when the phone "is not" plugged in to anything.

What's the best way to clean it? I think I tried air .

And now that I'm thinking about my phone is in/out of my pocket a lot. It probably is debris? I do use a case around the phone though.

And thanks for such quick replies. This pop up is driving me nuts.

Thanks! I took a pin and softly went inside the port and indeed there was debris. Probably lint from my cotton work shorts

I'll try and keep the phone out just not sure how.

Thanks again. Hope this solves the error.
