Why my fiance is experiencing echoes during calls?

My fiance can hear an echo which is not always consistant and its really bugging him and me. We have done a soft reset and still nothing has changed

Welcome to iMore! I'm not sure what all can cause this. But it happened with my Wife and I and it turned out to be the way she held her phone to her ear. I think she held it up too high on her ear. This caused me to hear echos of myself. When she pulled it down lower to her mouth, it stopped.
